Locked out of admin account on USG FLEX 100W
Hi,
I have been having a running battle with a USG FLEX 100W for over a year now. I keep getting locked out of the admin account after a period of time. This is despite repeatedly resetting and re-configuring the device on a couple of occasions.
Typically, I would factory reset the device, reconfigure from scratch, set the admin password and when I come to access it again in a month, say, I can't access it. I have to repeat the whole process again.
I read somewhere that the bios of Zyxel's can get compromised so there is no hope with unit.
I would be interested in hearing if others have had similar issues and whether you were able to overcome them.
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a frustrating issue with your USG FLEX 100W. Have you tried updating the firmware to the latest version? It could be a firmware or security-related problem. If the issue persists, contacting Zyxel support for further help or a potential replacement might be the next step. It’d be useful to see if others have had similar problems with this model.

Thank you @AnaWood1122 for your response. The FLEX 100W is running 5.39(ABWC.0) and I believe the latest version is 5.39(ABWC.1). My dilemma is, to upgrade the firmware I need to factory reset the device and setup again from scratch (despite having backups I can't trust they won't re-introduce the problem), or do I just cut my losses with Zyxel and stick a Draytek in that doesn't repeatedly let me down?
I am leaning towards moving away from Zyxel in this instance, which is a shame as I have five other Zyxel models in the field not displaying this issue.

Hi @elkrust
To better understand and assist with your issue, could you please provide the following details?
- Screenshot of the login interface: This will help us verify any potential login prompts or error messages.
- Nebula Registration Status: Is your USG FLEX 100W registered to Nebula Control Center? If it is, the admin login credentials will follow the settings configured on the Nebula Control Center. You can refer to this guide for more information:
What is the password is if I want to login via LAN to the Nebula device? — Zyxel Community - Device Information: Please share your firewall's MAC address and serial number (S/N) with us via a private message. This will allow us to check the device's registration status on our backend system.
Once we have this information, we'll be able to investigate further and assist you more effectively.

Hi @elkrust
Thank you for sharing your device details via private message. After reviewing the device in our backend system, we found that it is not registering on our Nebula Control Center.
Since the firewall locks out the login after multiple failed attempts, please try rebooting the firewall and logging in again with the correct credentials to see if that resolves the issue.
If you are still unable to log in, the only option would be to reset the device to factory defaults and restore it using a backup configuration. Additionally, we recommend the following settings to better manage your firewall:
- Ensure your firewall is updated to the latest firmware for enhanced protection.
- Set up 2-3 admin accounts to manage the firewall.
- Regularly change your login password.
- Collect the device's syslog and review it for any suspicious login attempts.
