AP Throttling?

Attempted to setup a Zyxel WiFi 6 AX1800 and a Zyxel WiFi 7 BE11000 this weekend. Don't need both but wanted to test capabilities/performance of each then decide which to keep.

Current router is a TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6E connected to 1GB Google fiber. It is in a 2nd floor bedroom closet.

I want an AP on the first floor for better coverage/performance. After connecting, updating and creating the SSID on each (one at a time, not used concurrently) I would test connecting through the Zyxel AP vs the router from 1st floor.

In both cases the Zxyel's performed at a fraction of the speed I could connect directly to the router WiFi.

Is there something I missed in the initial setup/configuration?

    Hi @Rochambeaux ,

To evaluate your network performance, please provide the following details:

    1. Your ISP plan's speed (upload and download speeds)
    2. Details of your speed test methodology:
      • Speed test tool/application used
      • Wireless client device specifications (model, Wi-Fi capabilities)
      • Test conditions: Distance between wireless client and access points/router, Signal strength during testing, number of wireless clients connect to the AP/ router, the channel…
      • Detailed speed test results for both: Zyxel access points and TP-Link router

For an accurate speed test comparison, please ensure all testing conditions remain constant.

The following guide can help you conduct standardized throughput testing for your access points.

I have a BE11000 as well and have a similar issue. It seems like all wireless clients are limited to between 150-190mbs, but only for web traffic. If I use a tool like NTTTCP to test throughput between two Windows PCs on the network, one of them wireless, I see a much higher throughput. Likewise, SMB file transfers via wifi also have better throughput than web traffic.

OK second try on this. I have a BE11000 as well and web traffic (http or https) only seems to be limited to 150-190Mbs. Are you seeing similar with yours? If I test throughput via other ports using tools or SMB transfers, there is no hard 150Mbs limit.

I didn't mess it with it any further and just returned it to Amazon for a refund. I don't want a product that places default restrictions on anything with a way to turn it off.
