Which WAP?
hi,
I currently have two items in storage that I’m looking to reconnect.
- GS1920-8HPv2
- NWA1123-ACHD
I’m currently having some building work and some wires are being installed, CAT6.
As the house currently has issues with WiFi coverage, using the standard ISP provided router, I want to try to improve the WiFi network.
I can see there are various new models of WAP available but I’m struggling to work out what the differences are and whether they’d be compatible with the NWA1123 I have. Or if I’d sacrifice anything from a newer model if operating it alongside an older model.
I’m currently thinking that I need two more access points, these will use POE from the GS1920.
I’ve been looking today and there are some stock issues on the zyxel store, but something like the NWA50BEPRO seems to be an updated version of the 1123.
Any recommendations or things i need to be aware of? If there’s guidance on the website for this kind of query feel free to redirect me.
Thanks in advance
Ian

just realised from this page
The 1123 is out of support… so I suppose the question changes to which AP should I be looking at to use with the 1920?

For most I guess wifi 6 unless you want wifi 7? then Standalone vs Controller but if your never going to get a USG FLEX then Standalone would be cheaper.
Any budget?
Likely the NWA50AX PRO or for wifi 7 NWA130BE

thanks Peter, budget is a good question. I was thinking less than £500 for two AP’s. I probably need to read up on the pros and cons of WiFi 6 and 7.
In terms of USG FLEX is that a device I can use in place of my broadband/ISP supplied router?
It’s about three years since I’ve used Nebula but I really liked the UI for that. Ultimately I’ll have various cameras, SONOS devices, hive and ring devices plus kids that need to be managed, controlled and kept safe. Bit broader than my initial question but happy to have some comments.

The USG FLEX with FLEX H being the newest would be your firewall with a Zyxel AP that support Controller you can configure the AP from FLEX. But you do not need a FLEX to run the AP in Standalone or Nebula
I think most AP that are now Standalone have Nebula support which is not the same as Controller

Hi @IanUk ,
Regarding your current setup, while the NWA1123-ACHD can still integrate with newer AP models and function adequately, I strongly recommend upgrading to a more current access point solution. The NWA1123-ACHD is a WiFi 5 (802.11ac) product that has reached end-of-life status with no further firmware updates available, which limits future security patches and performance optimizations.
For enhanced performance and future-proofing, I recommend these WiFi 6 options:
NWA110AX
NWA50 AX Pro
NWA90 AX Pro
NWA50 AX
In addition to these Wifi 6 options, we also provide the most advanced wireless technology in our latest WiFi 7 models:
NWA110BE
NWA50 BE Pro
NWA50 BE
All of these recommended models are specifically designed for small office and home deployment, which can deliver excellent wireless coverage and superior wireless performance for your environment.
If you choose to integrate your existing NWA1123-ACHD with new access points to extend WiFi coverage throughout your property, ensure all APs maintain identical configuration settings:
SSID Name (network name)
SSID Password
Security Settings (WPA3/WPA2 configuration)
This consistent configuration ensures seamless device roaming between access points without service interruptions.
The following link introduces the roaming behavior, please take a look at it for your reference.

Hope this would help with your decision. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or need further clarification on any of these recommendations.
Best Regard,
Lynn
