Controller AP Group Function

What function to do the AP groups serve on the Flex H AP controllers? Is roaming limited to APs within a group?

I have several APs in a building and one of them serves an older b/g IOT device. I'd like to put this one in a separate group with the older functionality enabled (control rate <11 Mbps, and ax/ac/n station only disabled). But I still want clients to roam between the two groups.

    Hi @Matthew

The AP groups allow you to set different SSID setting to different AP group. The SSID setting will be applied to the APs in the same AP group. This allows the clients to roam between different APs, which are in the same AP group, since these APs are using the same SSID setting and security option.

For your requirement, you can still set the same SSID setting and security option between the different AP groups, this will also allow the clients to roam between different APs in different AP groups. And set different radio settings to specific AP group.

So the AP groups are solely configuration groupings and not operational groups. Roaming between APs in different works exactly the same as roaming between APs within a group (assuming identical SSIDs of course)?

Can we get a feature request for SSID objects that can applied to multiple groups so that we don't have manually recreate SSIDs when we are trying to use groups for different radio configurations? Similar to how the USG/Flex series used SSID objects. I do like how the H series integrates the security into the SSID profile as I always felt the SSID Security objects were redundant with the SSID objects in the old series but would it be nice to have the SSID Objects back.

    Hi @Matthew

Yes, once the same SSID and same security options.

About your input, I have created an idea post. We will monitor the comments and votes of this idea to evaluate.
