XGS1250-12 / 2 10G ports (9 and 10) are not working after short power cut

I have noticed that this particular switch seems to be susceptible to this kind of failure as there are a couple of posts on this forum describing my exact issue. Before the power cut only port 9 was being used on the switch. For some reason when power was restored ports 9 and 10 no longer worked. I still have access to the switch and web interface as well as the 1G ports and Ports 11 and 12. I'm not sure whether the switch will last.

I have tried:

1. Updating to the latest firmware, 2.00(ABWE.1)C0.

2. Resetting the switch back to factory settings numerous times.

3. Left it unplugged for a few days.

4. Looped to all ports and zero activity on ports 9 and 10. Port 11 still works perfect, for now. Didn't test the SFP+ as I need Rj45 ports.

Can I confirm if this is a known hardware issue? The firmware update did not fix the problem. The switch is out of warranty (purchased 31 August 2022) and it would be cheaper to buy a new switch than to have it repaired. I just wanted to know if there was any other solution than the recycle bin and buy a new switch. I'm sorry to say that I would have to purchase from a different manufacturer.

Has anybody else had this problem recently and managed to fix it?

    Hi @TonyP_561,

It's sad to hear you encountered this issue. If you tested with a loop but the port is still down, that means a hardware issue. You can reference this post to check the correct warranty information for your Zyxel device.

I’m experiencing the exact same issue with the same switch model (XGS1250-12) after a planned short power outage.

During the outage I deliberately powered down all major devices, but I left the switch on, because I honestly didn’t expect a simple power cut to permanently damage a switch. After power was restored, the three 10G ports (9, 10, and 11) are now completely dead.

Just like you, I still have access to the web interface and all 1G ports work fine. I also tested a loopback on the affected 10G ports, and there was no activity at all, so it definitely doesn’t look like a configuration or firmware issue.

What makes this especially frustrating is how sad and disappointing it is that such an expensive, supposedly professional device can fail just because of a power cut. Power interruptions are a normal real-world scenario, and a switch in this price range should clearly be able to handle them.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found any fix either. In my case as well, the switch is now effectively unusable for its intended purpose.
