Standalone vs. Nebula Cloud

Can someone tell me the pros and cons for using either mode for Access Points?

I don't really care about make changes in one place to affect multiple APs.  For me that isn't an advantage in my use case.

In terms of network service/operation, no much difference.

 

In terms of device management,

Cloud management can be done anywhere/anytime. Device software maintenance is automatic.

We also have Nebula APP to check the AP status and basic configure change.

The event log can be recorded for 7 days and have further advanced feature.

For standalone has more options and flexibility to cover for corner-case network scenarios not supported in cloud mode.

 

For most of the cases, Nebula can meet your need and it’s free to use base pack Nebula, and the graphical interface is more user friendly.

Thanks for that.  It appears that Standalone could have many more settings available.  Would be nice to see all the settings align between standalone and Cloud. It almost feels like I have settings missing on Nebula that I would probably see in standalone.  The Nebula app is pretty useless as you can't really do anything with it.  So last night I received a firmware update for my APs that is still not listed on the website.  Would using standalone still give access to an updated firmware being available? Can I update firmware remotely in standalone?

Also is the app functioning when using standalone mode or not at all?

Hi @jpblanch75 ,

Our Nebula APP only support Nebula mode.

To upgrade standalone AP:
1.you need to go to download library:
https://www.zyxel.com/support/download_landing.shtml

2.after download the file, unzip the file

3.go to Web GUI, file manager>firmware package > upload file
and upload the ".bin" file.






Here is another way by using ZON,
select the AP you need to upgrade, and click the firmware upgrade icon.


if you choose local upgrade, just follow the standalone mode process, upload the bin file.

when you choose online upgrade,
it would directly download the latest firmware version,
and process firmware upgrade.
(we recommend this as more convenient.)

Can you please tell me what "more options and flexibility" do the standalone mode have over the Nebula mode? I'm trying to look for this info all over the Internet and I cannot find it!
