Ping issues on Zyxel router over ethernet

I recently received a Zyxel router that was forced upon us. By SADV or service provider, and ever since the swap I have had ping fluctuation and an average of 5ms to the router over a 1m CAT 5e cable.
Please advise anything that I can try
