Which socket do you plug the UPS monitoring cable in to?

There are various USB ports on my NAS542 device. I plugged the monitoring cable from the APC CS500 UPS into the NAS but it is not detected. Is there a specific port I should use? (I should add I'm confident it's not the device or cable since they work elsewhere.)

Today's lesson - it doesn't matter which port on the NAS you use if the data cable isn't plugged in to the right port on the UPS. I'll get my coat...
