Scenario

Users prefer to assign a custom system name to the APs for easier identification and management within their network. The system name is an internal name used by the device itself and can help users differentiate between multiple devices, especially when working with a larger network setup.

Feature: Edit Device Name

Starting from July 10, 2023, with the release of Nebula 17.10, the modification made to the Device Name will be pushed to the System Name (SysName) of APs when the following requirements are met:

  1. The device must be updated to v6.60 firmware or a newer version.
  2. The device name is modified after July 10th (Nebula 17.10 release).
  3. The device name should follow the standard SysName rules:
    • Follow the standard SysName format: [Hostname] or [Hostname.Domain name].
    • The device name should be less than 64 characters, with the first 63 characters considered as the SysName.
    • Only English letters, numbers, and hyphens (-) are supported.
    • The hyphen (-) should be in the middle of the hostname and each sub-domain.
    • The domain name should follow the standard DNS structure (A.B.C.D).

Configuration Steps:

To change the device name, please follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that the AP is updated to the V6.60 firmware version or a newer release.
  2. Go to the "Devices"
  3. Select the specific AP for which you want to change the name.
  4. Click on the "Edit" button.
  5. Enter your desired name for the device and Save.

Result:

After changing the device name, you can verify the update on the Zyxel Online Network (ZON) portal.
