No WiFi calling on Zyxel c3000z
I am trying to get my iPhones (one iPhone 12 and one iPhone 13) to connect to my ATT wireless via WiFi Calling. I have done all of the troubleshooting steps on the phone side of things. And, in fact, I can get both phones to do WiFi calling on a friend's Xfinity router. But when I come home, I can't get phones to connect to WiFi. I have tried both the 2.4 mhz and 5 mhz bands on my network. Is there something else I need to set up in the router's settings?
I saw in some other postings the recommendation to update the firmware in the c3000z. But I can't get the .bin file to open on my Mac. If updating the firmware is required, how do I do it on a Mac platform?
Thanks.
Jeff

Hello @JeffinEdina
Welcome to the forum.
WiFi calling is done by the smartphones, so the issue is that your iPhones cannot connect to the WiFi of the C3000z.
I wonder if the root cause is that the iPhones will now only connect to WPA3 WiFi and the C3000z does not support WPA3 see https://www.centurylink.com/content/dam/home/help/internet/downloads/modem-user-guides/c3000z-datasheet.pdf
See also https://www.centurylink.com/home/help/internet/wireless/network-security-types.html which says that C3000z only supports WPA2-PSK, whereas C4000 supports WPA3, see below screenshot.
Do your iPhones say that the WiFi is not secure?
Kind regards,Tony

Thanks, Tony!
My phones connect to WiFi for other purposes. For example, I can put them in Airplane mode and they have internet connectivity for everything except cell network calls.
And no, I’m not getting messages about WiFi not secure.
It sounds like an upgraded router is the answer, perhaps.
Thanks for the help.

You're welcome Jeff. @JeffinEdina
I have found some other tips that might help, see https://www.guidingtech.com/fix-wi-fi-calling-not-working-on-iphone/ , including changing the DNS servers on your iPhone.
- If everything else is working on WiFi, then the DNS servers might be a difference between your home setup and your friend's setup…
Also Apple say the following: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/108066#:~:text=Restart%20your%20iPhone.,off%20and%20then%20on%20again.
Kind regards,
Tony

I spent an hour on chat and phone with Apple. After running me through all the troubleshooting steps discussed in the articles cited above- all to no avail - they said it must be the Zyxel C3000z that’s the problem, although they did say it’s NOT the WPA3 issue causing the problem. So their solution was that I should get a new modem/router from Century Link. Is Zyxel aware of this defect in their product?
I’m giving up…
