Unveiling Wi-Fi 7: A Leap Towards Extreme High Throughput

In the evolving landscape of wireless technology, Zyxel Networks is at the forefront, embracing the latest advancements with the introduction of Wi-Fi 7. Though colloquially known as Wi-Fi 7, the technology's formal designation is based on the IEEE 802.11be standard, underpinning the Extreme High Throughput (EHT) operation mode. This article showcases our flagship models and their capabilities, and delves into the technological enhancements that position Wi-Fi 7 as a game-changer in wireless networking.

Key Enhancements of Wi-Fi 7

Wi-Fi 7 introduces several groundbreaking features that significantly improve wireless networking performance:

  • Increased QAM: The leap to 4096 QAM from the previous 1024 QAM allows for denser data transmission, significantly enhancing throughput.
  • Expanded MUMIMO Capabilities: With support for up to 16x16 MUMIMO, Wi-Fi 7 substantially increases network efficiency. Our implementation includes a 4x4 antenna in each radio configuration, optimizing both cost and performance.
  • Broader Channel Access: Wi-Fi 7 devices can access 320 MHz channels in the 6 GHz band and 240 MHz channels in the 5 GHz band, further boosting data transmission capabilities.

Advanced Features for Optimized Performance

Wi-Fi 7's technological advancements are designed to optimize wireless network performance and efficiency:

  • Multiple Resource Unit (RU) Allocation: This feature allows for more flexible and efficient bandwidth allocation, improving throughput and reducing latency.
  • Preamble Puncturing: This allows Wi-Fi 7 devices to ignore channels with interference, effectively bonding available channels to maintain high data rates.
  • Multi-Link Operation (MLO): A hallmark of Wi-Fi 7, MLO enables devices to connect across multiple frequencies simultaneously, ensuring robust and efficient data transmission.

Demonstrating Wi-Fi 7's Capabilities

Our internal tests with Wi-Fi 7 network interface cards have demonstrated impressive capabilities, achieving transmit rates of up to 5,764 Mbps under optimal conditions for 1x1 antenna. These tests underscore the potential of Wi-Fi 7 technology to deliver unprecedented speeds and reliability in wireless networking.

Looking Ahead

While Wi-Fi 7's most advanced features, such as multiple RU allocation, preamble puncturing, and MLO, are yet to be fully deployed by all client products. The full utilization of these features is pending the availability of Wi-Fi 7 client devices for comprehensive testing. Despite this, the foundational enhancements of Wi-Fi 7, including 4096 QAM and expanded MUMIMO, are already enabling significant performance improvements.

In conclusion, Wi-Fi 7 represents a significant leap forward in wireless technology, with Zyxel Networks leading the way in its adoption and implementation. As we continue to test and refine our Wi-Fi 7 offerings, we are committed to delivering the most advanced and efficient networking solutions to our customers. Stay tuned for future updates as we unlock the full potential of Wi-Fi 7 technology.
