Firmware recovery steps for Zyxel Access Points

INTRODUCTION

This FAQ describes how to upgrade firmware from tftp server by AT commands. In
rare situations, Zyxel Access Points might not boot up successfully after a firmware upgrade. The following procedures are the steps to recover firmware to normal condition.

ENVIRONMENT

Please connect the console cable to Zyxel Access Point and RJ-45 to tftp server.

RECOVER/UPGRADE FIRMWARE

  1. Press any key to enter debug mode during the booting period.
  2. Open the tftp server (192.168.1.103) and put the firmware (.bin file) in the current directory.
  3. Please follow the procedures below to upgrade the firmware via tftp server (192.168.1.103).
    A. WAC6503D-S> atna 192.168.1.2
    B. WAC6503D-S> atns 192.168.1.103
    C. WAC6503D-S> atnz <your Zyxel Access Point's firmware file name>.bin
  4. Use the Tftp client feature to download the file. Processing log:

  5. Wait for about 3.0 minutes until finishing tftp download and flash programming.
    Use the atsr to reboot WAC6500.

    The username prompt displays after the WAC6500 starts up successfully
