To utilize more available channels, Zyxel APs open DFS channels for Dynamic Frequency Selection. If the AP detects radar, the following may occur:
- Channel Vacancy: Upon radar detection, the AP ceases use of the affected DFS channel and switches to a non-DFS channel that is available. This prevents Wi-Fi signals from interfering with radar systems.
- Temporary Disconnection: During the DFS process, Wi-Fi clients connected to the AP may experience temporary disconnection or instability as the AP changes channels. However, modern APs and devices are designed to manage this transition smoothly.
- Compliance Checks: Zyxel APs perform regular checks. If radar is not detected within 30 minutes, the AP resumes using the DFS channel. Otherwise, it remains fixed on a non-DFS channel.
