I set up a similar configuration to yours:

• Smart Mesh between NWA210AX and NWA210AX
• Created an SSID_A with VLAN ID 10 and enabled the captive portal, limiting it to broadcast only by the repeater NWA210AX

I connected to SSID_A with my Android device (Android 14), and everything worked correctly. To assist you further, could you provide more details?

1. Do all your Android devices fail to show the captive portal when connecting to the SSID broadcasted by your repeater NWA210AX? Please share your Android OS version.
2. You mentioned that when you change your SSID (with captive portal) VLAN to VLAN ID 1, the portal works without any issue. We suspect this might be related to the DHCP server. Could you verify if the VLAN10 interface is configured on your router (DHCP server)? Also, if there is any switch between the AP and your router, ensure VLAN traffic is allowed on the relevant ports.
3. Can you share your network topology with us, especially the uplink connection of your NWA210AX mesh?

For testing, please ensure your client has a good signal (-65 dBm or above). Additionally, if you conduct any tests, could you share the device’s MAC address with us via private message? This will help us rule out issues from your testing device.

I wanted to update you on the issue: When a client connects to the NWA210AX repeater SSID (configured with a captive portal and VLAN) via a smart mesh connection with the NWA50AX, VLAN packets are not transmitted properly. This happens due to a limitation in the NWA50AX’s specifications. Since the NWA50AX does not support the captive portal feature and does not broadcast an SSID with VLAN configuration, it cannot dynamically build a VLAN interface, resulting in the failure of VLAN packet transmission.

To ensure that your SSID with the captive portal and VLAN settings is broadcast correctly and that VLAN packets are forwarded properly, please confirm that your root AP supports similar specifications. For example, you might consider using the NWA210AX for both devices in your smart mesh setup.
