Alert aggregation is a feature in Nebula Control Center (NCC) that allows administrators to condense multiple similar notification events into a single notification. This helps reduce notification overload and makes it easier for users to manage alerts on their mobile devices.

How Alert Aggregation Works

  • Aggregation Interval: The system uses a five-minute aggregation interval. During this period, NCC collects and stores all in-app notifications.
  • Consolidated Notification: At the end of each five-minute interval, a consolidated notification is sent to the user’s mobile device, summarizing all events within that timeframe.

Grouping of Notifications

Currently, alert aggregation in NCC groups notifications into two categories:

  1. Offline Alerts: Notifications when devices go offline.
  2. Online Alerts: Notifications when devices come back online.

These notifications cover various device types, including:

  • Access Points (AP)
  • Switches
  • Security Appliances
  • Mobile Routers
  • Accessories

Functionality

  • Default Setting: By default, every individual event (such as a device going offline) sends a separate notification to the user. Users can still choose to keep this setting by leaving alert aggregation turned off.
  • Condensed Notifications: When alert aggregation is turned on, the user receives a single notification indicating the number of devices that went offline or came online within the five-minute interval, grouped by site.

Notification Display

  • Locked Screen Notification: When the user’s smartphone is locked, the notification will show the site name and a summary of the devices that went offline or online.
  • Expanded Notification: In the Nebula mobile app, clicking the notification bell will expand the notification to show the details of the aggregated alerts. Users can tap on the summary to see a list of affected devices and click on each device for more detailed information.

Conclusion

Alert aggregation in NCC offers a streamlined approach to managing multiple notifications, reducing the noise and improving the clarity of critical alerts. This feature is especially beneficial for users who need to monitor numerous devices and prefer concise, aggregated notifications.
