Previously, WLAN channel usage and utilization data were displayed together in a single chart. This combined view made it challenging for users to analyze wireless network performance, particularly in environments with high traffic or multiple Wi-Fi frequencies, such as Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7. To improve clarity, NCC 18.20 now allows these metrics to be displayed separately, providing users with a more streamlined and focused view of each parameter.

Displaying Channel Usage and Utilization Separately

  1. Enhanced Clarity:
    • By separating channel usage and utilization into distinct charts, users can now easily view each metric without overlapping information. This is particularly beneficial for administrators managing complex environments with multiple access points or high-frequency bands, where precise monitoring is essential.
  2. Better Performance Analysis:
    • Channel usage refers to the proportion of time each channel is occupied, while utilization measures the overall workload on the network. By viewing these metrics independently, administrators gain a clearer understanding of network congestion and the effectiveness of each channel, helping them optimize wireless performance more efficiently.
  3. Improved Monitoring for Advanced Wi-Fi Standards:
    • With the increasing adoption of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7, which support higher frequencies and more devices, having separate charts enables users to monitor performance accurately and make adjustments based on frequency-specific data.

How to Access the Separate Channel Usage and Utilization Charts

To access these charts, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Device Section:
    • Go to Device > Access Point in the Nebula Control Center.
  2. Access Connectivity Details:
    • Scroll down to the Connectivity section of the access point’s settings.
  3. Button Display Options:
    • There is now an option to click a button the display of channel usage and utilization. Use this option to view each chart individually or toggle back to the combined view if preferred.
  4. Interpret the Data:
    • With these charts separated, you can view specific details on each radio frequency (e.g., 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz). This helps in determining whether channels are overloaded and where adjustments may be needed to maintain optimal network performance.

Summary

The NCC 18.20 enhancement for WLAN channel usage and utilization display improves monitoring, clarity, and the overall user experience for wireless network management. This update allows users to make data-driven decisions with a more detailed view of their network’s performance, especially important in high-frequency and high-density environments.
