- WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy): WEP is an older WiFi security protocol that encrypts data packets transmitted between the access point (AP) and wireless stations to maintain privacy. Both the AP and the wireless stations must use the same WEP key for encryption and decryption. However, it is considered less secure due to vulnerabilities in its encryption method.
- WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2): WPA2 is a more advanced WiFi security standard that provides stronger encryption, authentication, and key management than WEP. It is based on the IEEE 802.11i standard and significantly improves the protection of wireless networks compared to WEP.
- WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 3): WPA3 is the latest WiFi security standard, based on IEEE 802.11i, and introduces even stronger security features. It includes an enhanced Pre-Shared Key (PSK) authentication mechanism, providing better protection against brute-force attacks and improving privacy in open networks.
