Nebula Switch Stacking Firmware Update

If I have 2 switches stacked through Nebula, how does a new firmware get applied?

Does it update the first switch and restart, then update second switch and restart, so that connected devices stay online?

Or do both switches update and restart at the same time, thereby disconnecting clients during the restart?

    Hi @SkyGoat,

The behavior will be that both switches will update and reboot simultaneously.

So what if one switch connects to another and one downloads faster then the other reboots as the other is in the middle of downloading?

Does Nebula keep track of the updating switches even routers if set at the same time to update so that the switches can report back as all being ready for the simultaneous update and reboot?

    Hi Peter,
My question was specifically about stacking switches (Backbone in below image), where they are connected to each other via the stacking channel connection. I would assume that the process would be:

    • both download firmware
    • both install the firmware
    • communicate to each other via stacking channel when ready for restart
    • when all members of stack are ready for restart, send the restart signal via stacking channel to all switches in stack at same time

Ideally I would prefer that the switches restart one at a time, so that the site network remains up, but there's probably technical reasons that the stack cannot be running 2 different firmware versions, even for the few minutes it would take to do separate restarts.
