Zyxel is rolling out a new switch operating system called FaOS. While not an abbreviation, FaOS represents a modernized OS foundation for Zyxel’s switches.
At its core, FaOS runs on a Linux kernel, but it packages the original ZyNOS within it, ensuring that existing user experiences remain unchanged.
It is for better security, flexibility, and hardware compatibility.
1. Which Switch Models Use FaOS?
FaOS is currently available on:XS1935 SeriesCX4800 Model
What about other switches?
- New switch series will start incorporating FaOS.
- Older models will continue using ZyNOS and will not migrate to FaOS.
2. What’s Different for Users?
- 99% of the user experience remains the same – The Web GUI and CLI look and feel identical to ZyNOS.
- No Bootbase Debug Access in FaOS –The Bootbase level is no longer accessible in this phase. The switch boots directly into FaOS.
