With Nebula 18.30, Zyxel has introduced new interface description fields and improved error handling for reserved interface names on security routers, specifically the SCR 50AXE and USG-Lite 60AXE. These enhancements improve network visibility, organization, and configuration reliability.

1. New Interface Description Field

Network administrators can now add descriptive labels to their router interfaces, making it easier to identify and manage network connections. You can use interface descriptions on WAN, LAN and VLAN interfaces.

2. Prevention of Invalid Interface Names

Previously, certain reserved keywords (such as VLAN, PPP, and others) could unintentionally break configurations. If a user assigned one of these names, the router would ignore NCC’s configuration, leading to unexpected behavior.

New enhancements in Nebula 18.30:

  • Real-Time Error Messages – If an invalid name is entered, NCC immediately displays an error message.
  • Case Sensitivity Workaround – Users can still use uppercase versions (e.g., vlan100 is invalid, but Vlan100 is allowed).
  • Auto-Fix for Existing Issues – If a user previously set an invalid name before upgrading to 18.30, they will see an error message upon visiting the interface settings page, prompting them to change the name.
