This article provides step-by-step instructions for initial wizard to configuring the USG FLEX H Series Firewall. It will guide you through the process of first start and connecting the appliance to the internet and registering it.

Initial Setup

Before starting initial wizard, please ensure the following has been completed.

  • Register a MyZyxel Portal account for yourself
  • Connect Firewall to the power supply. (It may take 2-3 minutes to power up.)
  • Connect PC/laptop to Port 3
  • Connect WAN access to Port 1

How to start Initial Wizard Setup

First of all, ensure your PC/laptop gets an IP address from the USGFLEX H Firewall.
By default, you will get 192.168.168.33 as the first host.

Open a browser and input 192.168.168.1 to access the local Web GUI.
First you will see the login page, please input admin/1234 which is the default username/password

After clicking login, you will see it requests to change the default password due to security concerns.
After the change of password, you need to login again.

Wizard Steps

Step 1 Connect to Internet

Configuring the WAN interface type and port
Then click on Connection Test to ensure the internet access.

Step 2 System Time

The date, time, and time zone settings will be set automatically. You can change it later in the device menu.

Step 3 Firmware Upgrade

Currently, the device firmware is factory version which is not the latest firmware version. Please click Download and you will see the progress of the download

After finishing the firmware download, the device will automatically reboot, you will see the system LED is blinking.

After booting up again, you need to login to local Web GUI again.

User agreement page

Once login to local web gui after firmware updating, you will see this page of User Agreement.
Please tick I have read and agree with the items above and click Next

Step 3 Device Registration

After passing the user agreement, you will start over from Step 1, please process to Step 3 which becomes Device Registration.

You can see Registeration Status is Not Registrated
Please click Register, the page will be redirected to Nebula login page, process to register this USGFLEX H Firewall to Nebula.

Process to Register Firewall to your Nebula Organization/Site

After clicking Register, you will be redirected to Nebula login page
Please login with your MyZyxel account

First, please you may create a new Nebula Organization and Site for this USGFLEX H Firewall, or you can select an exist org/site. Click Next

Secondly, you will see the basic device information, please review the MAC address, Serial Number, and license information.

Finally, you will see this page, please click Register

After the registration steps have been completed, you will return to the local Web GUI login page, and the registration status will change to "Registered".

Step 4 License Summary

After clicking Register in the previous step, you will be redirected to Step 1.

Please click Next, process to Step 4

In Step 3 Device Registration, you should see this message: Congratualations!

Step 4, you can check the License Summary, please click Next
This step automatically activates all services to which you have a subscription.

Step 6 Finish

After step 4, you will jump to Step 6 as you finished the initial wizard.
Click Finish to exit the wizard, and you will be navigated to Web GUI > Dashborad
