Nebula switches - Different DHCP servers for different VLANs

Hello everyone,

for a long time I used a XGS2220-54HP to manage VLANs, so I enabled them as usual recently with a brand new installation.

I set VLAN1, VLAN2, VLAN3 and all of them are going on internet via Router1.

Now there is something that I never tried, that I would like to try with this new Client.

I would like to use these ports:

to manage a phone service via Router2.

So from 13 to 54 port I would like to use a physical uplink to Router1, while from 1 to 12 port I would like to use Router2 (with different ISP, subnet and so on).

Is it possible to manage these 12 ports configuring them in Access mode?

For example I can set them in Access Mode with PVID 100 so I can have in that section 11 VoIP phones going on internet with Router2 on port 12?

Please let me know if someone has tried this before.

    Hi @GiuseppeR,

Absolutely, yes. You can set them as access mode with PVID 100, which allows these ports to be in VLAN 100.

Additionally, you will need to change the allow VLAN on the other trunk ports from "all" to specific VLANs. This will make the VLAN 100 traffic only forward within ports 1-12.

    Hi @Zyxel_Melen

thanks for your confirmation about using Access mode to manage traffic via Router2.

Setting specific VLANs for Trunk ports 13-54 is useful to avoid that some traffic from ports 1-12 could be redirected via Router1?

Correct. This is to avoid some traffic (ex. broadcast) from ports 1-12 to be forwarded to ports 13-54. This could cause ports 1-12 get DHCP IP from Router 1.

    Hello everyone,

I can confirm that the LAN is almost physically segmented in this way, working as I thought and as @Zyxel_Melen confirmed adding nice tweaks regarding VLANs:

Phone service is on Router2 😎
