In the latest firmware release v5.00, Zyxel Networks has introduced a security-focused enhancement to how login privileges are handled for switch user accounts. The change is designed to limit unauthorized access to configuration settings.

What’s New?

Previously, users with Privilege Level 2 (commonly used for guest or monitor-only accounts) were still able to view network configuration details—even though they could not modify them.

With the new enhancement in v5.00, users with Privilege Level 2 are now strictly limited to dashboard-only access.

  • Privilege 2 users can only access basic dashboard information such as:
    • System information
    • Memory utilization
    • Hardware Monitor
  • No visibility into configuration settings, VLANs, routing, or other sensitive data.

How to Configure User Privileges

  1. Go to Security > User Management.
  2. Add a new user.
  3. Assign Privilege Level 2.
  4. Save and apply changes.

When this user logs in via the Web GUI, they will only see the guest-level dashboard with basic system status information.
