Format of NAS325 drives

After removing the drives can I format them in Windows environment instead of using telnet (saw a previous post) and wait ages? The intention is to use them in a another NAS from another brand/make.

    Yes, you can. But you'd better just put them in the other NAS. It will have to format them anyway.

    Depends. The hardware is good, although not very powerful by today's standards. The firmware has never been very good, and is quite outdated. Yet, if the firmware works for you, it works.

    If you want to update the firmware, that can be done by installing either Debian or OpenWrt. That's not extremely difficult, and yields to a small, up-to-date Linux server. But still not very powerful.
