Nebula vs On Premise Management

So as we have now many clients in Nebula for Access Points and for FLEX H series we have to register those devices in Nebula, but they still are managed for most things on premise.

But now I have joined an XGS1935-28HP and a XGS1930-28HP in Nebula. It looks like I can still manage it on premise(which I prefer, Nebula would I use for monitoring). But as soon as I change VID's on some ports on premise, it won't sync to Nebula, in opposite way it does sync.

Is it normal? Why can I still change things on the switch if it doesn't apply? This is very confusing… The way the FLEX H works now is better, manage on premise and monitor through Nebula.

    Hi @nielsscheldeman,

In Cloud mode, you can configure the Switch using both NCC and the Local GUI. The settings you configure in the Local GUI will apply to the Switch but will not appear in the NCC settings. The settings you configure in NCC will overwrite the Local GUI settings. It is the latest settings that will apply to the Switch. So, what you are experiencing is expected behavior.

The hybrid management approach, where local changes sync bidirectionally and on-premise management is prioritized with Nebula for monitoring, is specific to devices like the USG FLEX H series firewalls. This two-way sync is not applicable to the XGS193x switches.

Therefore, to avoid inconsistency, we recommend you use NCC to configure the Switch and only use the Local GUI for troubleshooting.

Hmm ok, I think I will stick then to local management only. Will it be possible in the future with 2-way sync? A bit dangerous that local management is still possible, but not synced correctly.

No monitor mode only possible like on old ZyXEL FLEX Series? Don't need to see specific port settings, but PoE draw, online status, cpu usage,… on 1 page for a client with 6 switches, would be very handy.

    Hi @nielsscheldeman,

Regarding the XGS1935-28HP and XGS1930-28HP switches you are using, starting from firmware versions V4.90 and V5.00 (and later) respectively, both local and NCC platforms can be used to configure the devices. However, please note that some settings available locally may not be supported by NCC. Rest assured, NCC will not overwrite any local configurations that it does not manage. We hope this clarifies your concerns.

Additionally, we understand your request for the switch to support a management mode similar to the 2-way sync or cloud monitor modes found on our USG FLEX (H) series. Therefore, we have forwarded your request to our development team for further evaluation. We also created a feature request post in our ideas forum. We encourage you and other users who are interested in this idea to show your support by commenting on or voting for it.
