Good evening

I just bought the Zyxel NWA50AX-Pro A.P as I had to upgrade from a TP-Link N300 A.P as it wasn't doing a good job. Anyway I plugged in the new AP (power and LAN Cable) and I downloaded the Nebula phone app signed in and followed what it told me to do.

After doing what it told me to do it wouldn't work at all, kept flashing AMBER/GREEN going through help it said it couldn't connect to a controller or something. I'm not very network savvy, so in the end after much messing around I managed to get in and configure it in Standalone mode.

A couple of questions I'd like to ask, please?

  1. Why wouldn't it work via the Nebula app after set-up? See my main router is a Zyxel provided by my ISP from years ago, and it still works, but I have a cable that goes into an Ethernet wall socket to then have a small CAT6a cable to the A.P and it worked for my old TP-Link, it's limited too 100mbps though. That's not me, the house I live in was getting some renovations done, and they installed it and I think it's limited too 100mbps.
  2. I don't have a controller, just a ISP router, what is one?
  3. It's working in STANDALONE mode fine it's fast very fast even on the limited 100mpbs connection via the jack, speed tests are around 90mbps, but would having it using NEBULA be better if so how do I go around doing this.

Thanks for your time, I really aren't that network knowledge

Is it CAT6a? Unless you got the reel of CAT6a for them to use it be anything in the walls

You using the power plug for the AP of PoE+ injector or switch?

    What model is your router?

Standalone is fine if you try for Nebula you will have to start over.

The NWA50AX-Pro is not controller supported so no need to worry about that

    Hi @Nakatomi_Uk

Why wouldn't it work via the Nebula app after set-up?

From your description, it could be the AP can't resolve DNS/AP can't sync system time with NTP server/AP can't connect with Nebula by port 4335/6667. You may reference this FAQ to have a check for the disconnect issue.

I don't have a controller, just a ISP router, what is one?

You don't need a controller. The document said is the AP can't connect to Nebula control center. Nebula control center is the cloud networking management tool from Zyxel, which the device communicates with the Nebula server directly.

It's working in STANDALONE mode fine it's fast very fast even on the limited 100mpbs connection via the jack, speed tests are around 90mbps, but would having it using NEBULA be better if so how do I go around doing this.

Nebula mode provides the remote management, simplified firmware updates, and consolidated monitoring. If you are interested in these advantages, you can try to change to Nebula mode.

P.S. Change to Nebula mode will erase the current configuration and apply Nebula config. Please remember to back up the config before change mode.

P.S.2. Nebula provides the base pack(free); you may feel free to use it without a license.
