Access Point WiFi Packet Capture Capability
Zyxel Employee
Zyxel Access Points (APs) can offer various monitoring capabilities. To determine if an AP supports capturing over-the-air WiFi packets for analysis with tools like Wireshark (a feature often referred to as "Remote Capture"), you should look for the "Wireless Monitor Interface supported" option on its management interface. This functionality allows the AP to capture wireless traffic and export it to a PC running Wireshark for detailed analysis.
It's important to distinguish this from "RF Monitor mode," which some APs support for detecting rogue APs; RF Monitor mode is a different function and does not provide packet capture for Wireshark. An AP cannot provide normal wireless services while in RF Monitor mode.
