Hello, all my Data is gone i think but maybe someone can help me.

The NAS gave me an error Volume degraded ( DISK 4 was no longer part of the array )

I desided to replace DISK4 , then i did use the Volume Repair Button to repair it.

Today there was a beeping sound again and … DISK1 is totally gone. Volume down. I think before finishing the repair.

Is there a chance to rebuild the array with disk 2,3 and the old 4 to just access the files to get a fresh backup ? If four disks are required i could use the replacement drive with the incomplete Disk4 recovery .

Yes, there is. Depending on the health of 4, of course. Can you enable the ssh server (somewhere in System->TCP/IP), log in over ssh, as root/<your-admin-password>, and post the output of

    mdadm --examine /dev/sd[abcd]3

    cat /proc/mdstat

    cat /proc/partitions

With disk 1,2,3 and the old 4 inserted.

Hello, thank you for the reply. Well, first of all , the health of the old 4 is not very good.

I'd choose another way to get the data from that, well lets call it array. Now the 3 Disks are hooked up to a computer and i am trying to get the personal stuff from it. pictures of my children and so on. the rest , movies or mp3 doesnt care at all. drive 4 is recalibrating all the time, many files are okay. ( yes i know , a backup, but i dont have one.) So i will keep trying to get everything i can.

So now i have another problem. i decided to buy expensive disks to start all over again.

I wanted to start fresh from scratch, so i wanted to reset the NAS540, because 2 years ago i tried plex on it and other third party tools. i did use that NAS540_521AATB3C0_Upgradekey to do that.

Now the device is gone …. and i think nothing can change that, except the uart/usb cable and a lot of work .. i am kinda sad ….
