SBG3300 slowed

Strange or interesting phenomenon.  Over 12 months, or so, my broadband d/l speed decreased from 50+ down to 33 Mb/s which I attributed to ext. factors. ISP and exchange confirmed no problems detected. I loaded a new SBG with same f/ware and configuration and speeds returned immediately to 50+ Mb/s.
I have reset to manufacturer's settings and reloaded but the older SBG is resolutely stuck at 33Mb/s. 
Has anyone else seen this accumulating degradation?
