Need to connect Google Nest WIFI router to Zyxel C1100z router/modem thru Centurylink DSL connection

Google indicated I need to provision the router to accept to new system--disable the firewall & enter the MAC address thru MAC filtering--I tried to change settings I thought were correct by logging in to the IP for the router w/ no success--need some guidance on how to accomplish a successful connection--Also, do I need to set the modem in transparent bridge mode to use the Zyxel as a modem only?
