I want to use my 4 hdds with different sizes as separate disks. I do not want to lose space and I want to be able to remove any of the drives Any time (for instance to take to work) and put back in the nas540 enclosure later. Plus, currently these hdds are full of data; I don’t want my HDD’s to be formatted. Is there a way I could use the nas540 to access the hdds individually we without them having to be formatted?

It should work between Zyxel ones since they're the same system.

What OS did you install for those 4 HDDs?
NAS is linux-base system, which means HDD in other system format may not just "plug and play".

    Windows 10.

So they cannot be recognized, I see.

Let's say I agree to the hdds being formatted, will I be able to use them as separate disks?

Yes, just format them and create as 4 Basic volumes.

Thank you very much! I'll do that.

And if one day my NAS540 is broken, can I plug these 4 disks into a new Zyxel NAS without having to re-format them? If so, is it also possible to do this with another NAS system by another brand?
