Admin password change is not remembered

I tried to change my admin password to a better one. Whether I do that from Control Panel/User/admin or in User/Settings, the next time I log in as admin, the new password is not recognized.
What prevents the password from being remembered?

    SOLVED! I tried to enter a 16 character password... Only 14 are allowed, and only ASCII characters. Now it works.
