SBG 3300: Firmware fails to update

I’m currently trying to upgrade the firmware on my UK model SBG 3300, to the latest firmware.SBG3300-N000_1.01(AADY.8)C0.

Neor some reason the .bin file will not upload. After almost an hour it is still uploading which suggests that it may not be the correct one for this model even thought it was loaded from the Zyxel download site at

Can anyone suggest a reason why this won't work and point me to a UK specific firmware site where I can download another copy.

Included with the firmware is a rom file V1.01(AADY.8)C0.rom Is this for the wireless WAN and do I need to upload this as well?

You may need to check your back label to double check if the firmware you download is correct one.
The SBG3300-N000_1.01(AADY.8)C0 is for SBG3300-N000 (Annex A version). If your device named SBG3300-NB00, then it is Annex B version and the firmware you need will be SBG3300-NB00_1.01(AAIW.8)C0.
In normal case, you won't need the .rom file in upgrading process.

BTW, did you decompress the zip file and just upload the xxx.bin file??

Thanks for the reply. Yes it's definitely the SBG3300-N000 Annex A (VDSL over POTS UK) version.

Downloaded the zip file for 1.01(AADY.8)C0, decompressed it and looked for the bin file in the resulting folder. That is the one that I attempted to upload. 23.9Mb

I've done this several times before for Zyxel routers, including this one, an never had a problem. A re-download in case the original was corrupted doesn't cure the problem.

One thought - I'm doing this on a Mac and the bin file shows up as a Mac binary file. This has never caused a problem before, but I wonder whether Zyxel have a new policiy of firmware updates only being uploadable from a Wintel machine. PITA if true.

No idea where to go next.

Interesting, I'm using Mac OS,too and never heard that ZyXEL can only Wintel to upload the firmware. What's your current running firmware version that can't be upgrade to 1.01(AADY.8)C0?

TBH I wouldn't have thought Zyxel would limit it to firmware uploads from Wintel only but I know there are some manufacturers do so. Currently running V1.01(AADY.6) - uploaded from the Mac

That's interesting. I've just gone into the Zyxel UK ftp ( ftp.zyxel.co.uk) site and the latest one listed there is SBG3300-N000_1.01(AADY.6)C0 I wonder if despite being listed as Annex A, 1.01(AADY.8)C0 is only for Annex A elsewhere in the World and for reasons unknown excludes the UK?

We could do with a definitive answer from a Zyxel rep - I'm assuming like me you're a user and not associated with Zyxel.
