Clarifying the TX power levels shown in Nebula.

Hi all,

I started to work with Zyxel Nebula solution and would like to clarify the radio power settings shown in the Nebula

I know power rules in DFS and NON-DFS channels in 5GHz.
What is confusing:
Does the power value describe only IR power or calculated EIRP?
Should I calculate the antenna gain on top of the described value or not?

Thanks

    I think this is neither IR nor EIRP, the value indicates the power output from the AP's board/chip.

    Assume it as "X" , so:

    [IR = "X" - cable loss]
    [EIRP = "X" - cable loss + antenna gain]

    Best Regards,
    Richard

    Hi @Rashad

    Welcome to Zyxel community.

    The power value on Nebula is not calculated EIRP, it is the power output from the AP as Greenlight mentioned.

    Thank you

    Regards,

    Bella

    Thanks for the information guys,

    But I'm afraid I'm still confused.

    For example, for the Cisco Aironet 2802i AP with the integrated antennas, the output is calculated like this. Level 3 (WLC) = 11 dBm in the 5 GHz(AP's board/chip) + integrated antenna gain 5dB = approx about 16 dBm total TX power.

    Then I can assume the 22dBm power (AP's board/chip) is shown in the screenshot I shared above + 4dBi (WAC6303D-S 5GHz AP: 4dBi 3x3 MIMO) = 26dBm total.
    Is this correct or I still don't understand something)))

    Thanks

    Hi @Rashad

    If the AP is WAC6303D-S, there is an additional value you have to plus.

    For example, power status on Nebula is 22dBm.

    EIRP = 22dBm + Antenna Gain (2.4GHz: 3dB, 5GHz: 4.7dB) + spatial stream (2.4 GHz: 3 dBi; 2x2 MIMO, 5 GHz: 4 dBi 3x3 MIMO)

    The result of 2.4GHz is 28dBm and 5GHz is 30.7dBm total.

    Don’t hesitate to get back to us if you need any more information.

    Thank you

    Regards,

    Bella

    @Zyxel_Bella

    Much appreciated for the explanation, it's clear now.

    But could you please explain if this calculation does not break the regulatory rules ratified in ETSI?

    2.4GHz band
    The max power limit is 20 dBm (100 mW).

    "The result of 2.4GHz is 28dBm"

    5GHz band channels.
    5150 – 5250 MHz (36 to 48 ) the ETSI has set the EIRP power limit to 23 dBm (200 mW).
    5250 – 5350 MHz( 52 to 64) the ETSI has set the EIRP power limit to 23 dBm (200 mW)
    5470 to 5725 MHz ( Channels from 100 to 140)  the ETSI has set power limit of 30 dBm (1000 mW)

    "5GHz is 30.7dBm total."

    Especially in the scenario please see the screenshot > 25 dBm in the Nebula.

    Thanks in advance
    Rashad.

    Hi @Rashad

    Nebula will also consider your country code settings to auto adjust the output power.

    Would you like to share us your configurations for checking further informations?

    Please enable the Zyxel support at Help > Support request > Invite Zyxel support as administrator, and provide the Org and Site name for us to check.

    Thank you

    Thanks for the information. I will inform my client and if necessary, we will approach the mentioned solution.

    Our country code is Belgium and it was already defined in Nebula. So I was curious about the explained calculation.

    Thanks for your support.
