Yesterday this one AP (we have 8 in the building) went down for 3 separate 9 minute periods. In the AP logs you can see:

Port 0 is up! The link speed is 1000M/Full.
Port 0 is down!
Port 0 is up! The link speed is 1000M/Full.
Interface lan has been changed.
Interface lan has been changed.

Then on the switch port it is connected to , in the log you can see:

Where do we start to diagnose this issue, is it a switch or AP problem?

PoE or Power supply for the AP?
If the second, try to change the power supply.
If the first, check the PoE budget status of your switch.

POE and the power consumption  is only 45.8w out of the budgeted 375 W

Can you test the same AP:
    • in a different port switch
    • with a power supplier not into a PoE port
    • with a different PoE deliverer
IMVHO could be a AP issue..

Is this a sudden case, or regularly happen recently?

Especially only one out of eight APs suffering the issue, then I don't this could be the configuration issue.

From the time line of the switch log, it's really strange to see Port down/up several times within 1 minute, I think this could be a cable/connector issue...

How about to try to change another cable and see if it improves?

The access point has been running perfectly for months so we don't think it is the cable. We have just had another access point go down at 4am in the morning and has been down since. We installed Meraki access points as a stop-gap measure and they all worked flawlessly. We will get a Zyxel engineer in to double check our switch settings (which are identical to other sites we have that work perfectly). Our last option will be to bin the Zyxel kit and replace with Meraki kit.

    Hi @Adam_Morrison,

In general, APs’ port up and down won’t affect the STP topology changes.

You may close the STP in access switch and observe the logs.

And if there is only one AP has the problem,

You may change the cable and exchange the port with other AP,

These steps can help us know the problem is switch or AP.

If you find the problem happens on the same AP after test,

You may collect diagnostic info of AP or process RMA.

And if you want us to check your setting,

    Please enable enable Zyxel Support

(find the help icon >>support request>>Invite Zyxel support as administrator and

reply us your org and site name. (through message is ok.)

    Thank you

    Silvia
