SSIDs are not seen by older Laptops

I have 3 AP (NWA50AX) controlled by the Nebula-Cloud. Evrything seems to be fine but there are 2 older Windows-Laptops they do not read the SSIDs from the Zyxel-AP-network.
None of the 5 SSIDs is seen on the older laptops. On other devices the SSIDs work as expectedt. The older laptos see other SSIDs from APs outside the Zyxel-World.

In the Nebula settings:
SSID availability is set to "Broadcast the SSID"
"Allow 802.11ax/ac/n stations only" is turned off

Thank you for your interest!

    Hi HsinBo,

I changed the radiosettings as suggested - with no effect on my problem. So I went back to the original settings.

The USB-WiFi adapter might be a good idea.

    Thanks for support.

    Best regards,

    Hermann

    Hi, @HermannN

    Thanks for consulting Nebula Support!

    We have received your request,

    According to your description,

It may be the reason that the wireless NIC driver of your laptops is not compatible.

Actually, there are many cases the driver of the client NIC is too old, cause the device can’t identify the SSID of a newer standard.

Could you kindly help us to check whether there is a new driver for your laptops, please upgrade them and observe whether the invisible issue is solved or not!

If the problem still exists after you did the driver upgrade,

Please provide us with the model of your laptops and laptop wireless NIC driver version,

We would figure out the reason and solve this problem as soon as possible!

Hope the solution would work for you!

    Have a nice day,

    Thank you!

    Best Regards,

    HsinBo

As far as I can see here, you can update to a newer driver, date 2017.

    We have received your message!
According to the information you provided,
It seems that your wireless NIC driver version is not up to date,
Could you kindly help us to update the newest driver for it?

And we find that RTL8723AE only supports 2.4G from its user manual,
    Beside update the driver,
If the invisible issue happens on 5Ghz SSID, it may be a hardware limitation with the manual point out.
Please refer to the screenshot below:

Hope the answer would solve your problem.
    Have a nice day,
    Thank you!

    Hi HsinBo,

I was aware the the old laptop dont support the 5 GHz, so this was not suprising for me.
But it seems, I can't get a suitable driver for this laptop so I can't use it on my Zyxel-Network.

    Hermann

    Hi, @HermannN

    We have received your message,

May I know does the invisible problems happen on the 2.4Ghz SSID in your scenario too?

If it does, I found the below link via Google,

It is an MSI product website that uses the same wireless NIC hardware, which provides a newer driver than yours.

    Link: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GE40-2PC-Dragon-Eyes/support#driver

If you're willing to try it, hope that would be helpful for you.

    Best Regards,

    Hi HsinBo,

as the laptop receives only in 2.4 GHz-band all the invisible problems occur in the 2.4 GHz-band. There is no difference between the SSID's "2.4 GHz only" vs. "2.4 GHz and 5 GHz concurrent". I do not see the Zyxel SSID's.

I installed the driver for the msi GE40-2PC dragon-eyes but the Zyxel-SSID's are still invisible.

    Best Regards,

    Hermann

    We have received your message,
Due to hardware limitations, it only happens on these two laptops,
Other devices work fine from your description.

Since the latest driver version for this chip is still out of date that could not solve this symptom,
If you have the requirement to make the old laptops work with our product,
Maybe you can try the way below:

Setup the radio by the path:
Nebula >> Access point >> Radio settings
Scroll down the page and tap your AP in the table.

    • Adjust the Radio mode to 802.11b/g or 802.11b/g/n
    • Fix channel at the value with intervals 1 to 11
    • Set channel width at 20MHz

After you have done the settings, observe whether the symptom still exists or not.

But the setting would decrease the wireless experience for other devices, so it is not a good way.
If the symptom is solved, we still do not suggest you use this solution in your scenario.
I think that you can try USB Wi-fi adapter, hope the suggestion would help you!

If there is anything you want to share or if there is still any problem, please keep in contact with us.
    Have a nice day,
    Thank you.

    Best Regards,

    HsinBo
