Hi, I’ve recently purchased a GS1200-5.

I have an IoT device which I want to only have access to the internet, not the rest of my LAN.

my current set up:
- wireless router (built-in modem).
majority of devices connect with wifi, however my NAS is Ethernet enabled.
- Zyxel switch, Ethernet from router to port 1.

I tried setting up a new vlan for port 5 and connecting this IoT device to port 5. However it appears it can’t talk to the router, doesn’t even register with the DHCP service.

I am sure that this is only due to my lack of understanding on how to configure the switch.

TYIA!!

The wireless router is vLAN capable? If not... you have a nice switch but no way to use it (more or less) for vLAN

Even if you had a port based VLAN option the IoT can access your routers Wifi devices so you need a better router.

Thanks both, I was worrying this may be the case. Any suggestions as to what to look for in a router?

Depends how fast you want to go plus Wifi there is the ATP100W that might do 400Mb TCP or you can get VPN300 that I know can do 1Gb TCP without wifi. You can get simple AP or more advanced AP for SSID to subnet/VLAN
