WPS connection

Hi. I have just had new Fibre Broadband installed and I'm having a problem connecting to the Zyxel router that was supplied with it.
I have trien numerous time to connect through the WPS button on the rear but the printer just doesn't find it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Good news Tony, finally managed to get it to connect.
Used the Advanced Setup procedure on the printer and entered the router password, and hey presto.

Once again, many thanks for all the help and downloads you linked to. Wouldn't have been able to get there without it.

    Best wishes

    Hello Ian @macgina

Are you able to say what model of Zyxel router you have been supplied please?
         - So that we can look up the user manual for it.

    Kind regards,
         Tony
  • Hi, Sorry, should have said.
    Its a EMG5523-T50B.

    Many thanks

    Hello Ian @macgina

I have now found a user guide at https://spdl.zyxel.com/VMG8623-T50B/user_guide/VMG8623-T50B_1.pdf that applies to the EMG series as well.

It seems that you have to enable the Push Button Control (PBC) of WPS under Wireless (see figure on page 86), and then you can push the WPS button.
        - WPS button needs to be pushed for greater than 1 second, so that the WLAN LED goes amber.
        - and then you can push WPS on the other device you want to connect.

I hope that this is helpful.

    Kind regards,
         Tony
  • Hi Tony,
Thanks for spending the time looking for this solution, it's much appreciated.
But where do I actually go to make this change.
I think I have to log onto the Router using the User name and password supplied on the back of the router, but where do I go to log on to the router.

Again, many thanks for your help.

    Hi Ian, @macgina

    You're welcome.

Yes you will need to login to the router to make the change, using the web interface.

The Zyxel support video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCtNLuhjdf0 shows the WPS setting page at 5:12 into the video.
        - The web interface is similar across many models of Zyxel devices now even though a VMG3625-T50B is shown.

    Kind regards,
        Tony
  • Thanks again Tony.
I have log into the router and the PBC is already on.
I am still connected to my other broadband supplier, so set that router up again and have managed to get the printer to connect to that router.
Not certain if its a problem with the Zyxel router or what.

Any other help would be appreciated.

    You're welcome Ian @macgina

Can you say what make and model your printer is?
        - I might be able to look up the instructions for it.

    Kind regards,
         Tony
  • Hi Tony,

    Printer is a Canon MG4250.
I already have the manual and have followed the instructions without success.
The printer also has a small display that gives you instruction on how to set it up.

    Hi Ian @macgina

Thanks for the information. I have looked up the WPS setup at https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/pixma_printer_wireless_connection_setup/mg4250_printer_wireless_connection_setup/#standardusb

It seems like the Canon Printer only supports WPS method 1 of the EMG5523-T50B or typing in the passphrase manually under the printers standard connection method for WPA2.

If you get time Ian, could you try some of the standard connection method please?
          - to see if the printer can see the SSID of the WiFi of the EMG5523-T50B or not?
                - You don't have to enter the passphrase if you don't want to.
                          - screen and keys might be small...

                        - I guess that the EMG5523-T50B is setup for WPA2.

Can you confirm please what firmware your EMG5523-T50B is running?

I hope that this is helpful.

    Kind regards,
        Tony
  • Morning Tony,
    Firmware version - V5.50(ABPM.5)C0

    Thanks again.
