XGS1930-28 and max speed with 10Gbe

Hello everyone,
I apologize in advance for the bad English.

I can't understand where I'm going wrong in configuring the 10Gbe ports on the switch and on the computers because I can't find a positive response in the transfer speed.

In a test environment I have:

num.2 hp workstation z230 / xeon e3-1225v3 / 8gb ram DDR3 / with nic card Intel(R) Ethernet Controller X540-AT2
num.1 xgs1930-28
num.2 spf+ hifiber asf-10g-t

I have already set MTU 9k in the driver in a Windows environment and connected the two machines to the sfp+ adapters with a 1m cat 6a cable.

When launching Iperf I expect an average speed of 9Gbits/sec and not 3Gbits/sec

On the "server" machine I ran Iperf3.exe -s

On the "client" machine I ran Iperf3.exe -c ip_server

If I try on the "client" machine with the iperf3.exe -c ip_server -P 10 command and simulate 10 parallel connections instead I find a more concrete result of around 9Gbits/sec.

On the switch I can't find the possibility to set MTU for each port, what can I check, because I don't have 9Gbits/sec on a single connection?

Thanks in advance everyone :)

    Hi @pentasoft_albe,

From your description, I cannot figure out how you connected the testing PC.

Could you share more detailed information about it? It will help us better clarify your issue. Thanks in advance.

In addition, our switch enables the jumbo frame, 9K, by default. For more information, you may check our datasheet.

Ciao and thanks for your interest.

I took a photo to make it more immediate.

Basically I added 2 sfp+ hifiber asf-10g-t adapters to the xgs1930 switch and connected the computers on the intel X540 board.

    Computers are:

    server: 192.168.99.149
    client: 192.168.66.150

On both computers I enabled the 9k jumbo frame since the switches as you pointed out have it enabled by default. In theory I shouldn't change anything on the switch.

By running Iperf the results that I have already posted come out and I expect higher values.

What happens if you VLAN the other two SFP ports and have test server/client on the same subnet?

Currently everything is on the basic vlan 1... I haven't done a specific test of this type but I'll try to do it.

    Hi @pentasoft_albe,

Have you directly connected both hp workstations and run the iperf test? If you have, what was the test result?

OMG, how stupid I am, I didn't think about it...

With great surprise I get the same values.

I updated the driver of the X540-T2 network card, reset all the parameters, enabled the jumbo frame and the situation does not change.

    Some advice?

    Greetings,
    Thanks for the reply...

Making various attempts, I mounted Ubuntu 22.04 server on both machines and launched the same test both via the switch and directly connecting the machines to each other.

Both with MTU 1500 and 9k I get these values which are far better than what I see under windows.

In particular, it is highlighted that in Windows the 1-1 transmission is very penalized while in both cases, when I simulate multiple connections with the "-P 10" parameter the values are very similar.

I will try to put into practice what is suggested for the Windows environment and I will publish the results.

    Thanks again for the support.

Following the Microsoft link I enabled the RSS service on both workstations but with the iperf3 parameter -P 1 always around 3Gbit/sec while with -P 10 I get my nice 9Gbit/sec.

It's clear that it's something that concerns Windows since under Linux the performance with the same hardware is significantly superior.
