SCR 50AXE - Google Home/Smart Devices

Dear all,

Since a few days I’m a happy owner of the SCR50AXE. I’ve installed my WiFi etc, but for some reason a few of my Smarthome Devices are “offline” and can not be used by Google Home. When I’m home the Vendor App does work, but when I don’t use WIFi I can’t control it through the Vendor app.

I guess it is a restriction somewhere, but I don’t know where. Does someone else had the same issue?

    Hi @MarvinSV

Based on your description, it sounds like there may be some configuration issues affecting your smart home devices’ connectivity with the SCR50AXE. To better assist you, I have a few questions to clarify your setup:

    1. Have you kept the same SSID (WiFi network name), password, and security settings from your previous WiFi router/access points when configuring the SCR50AXE?
    2. If the SSID settings have changed, have you updated the wireless settings on your smart home devices to match the new configuration?
    3. Is your SSID set up as a gust network (which isolates devices from communicating with each other)? For IoT connections, it’s not recommended to use guest network settings, as this may prevent your devices from communicating with their controllers. If guest network isolation is necessary, you’ll need to add the controller to the Layer 2 isolation profile to allow communication.

To provide further assistance, could you enable Zyxel Support access in your Nebula organization and share your organization and site name with us? This will allow us to review your SCR50AXE configuration and SSID settings.

Additionally, if possible, please share the MAC addresses of your Google Home and smart devices via private message so we can check their connection logs on the SCR50AXE.

    Looking forward to your response!

    Kay

    Hi Kay,

    1. I've kept the old SSID name and password. That was the same as before.
    2. N/A
    3. It was not configured as a Guest Network.

Strange thing is that some of my devices did not connect to WiFi. Other devices were able to connect but did not get access outside the local network.

I think it is related to the Firewall and WiFi setup.
In the meantime I've restored my network to the old setup and every single device came back up. I have no idea where to look.

    Hi @MarvinSV

Is your Nebula organization and site still accessible? If so, please enable Zyxel Support access in your Nebula organization and share the organization and site names with us. We can start by reviewing the configuration and logs. It's fine if the device is offline.

    Hi Kay,

    Yes that is still available.
I will follow up later today (working as we speak).

    Thanks!

    Hi Kay,

    Have done as requested.
Do I need to create a new case as well?
I can't link this one to be honest.

    Hi @MarvinSV

As discussed in our private message, to ensure your smart home device can communicate seamlessly with the controller, we recommend keeping your LAN interface as the default one (default LAN interface is VLAN 1) and setting the SSID VLAN configuration to VLAN 1 as well.

Additionally, to ensure your smart home device connects to the SSID without issues, we suggest configuring the SSID security option to WPA3 (transition mode enabled). Unlike WPA2, which does not support transition mode and limits compatibility to AES encryption, WPA3 with transition mode enabled allows compatibility with both WPA3 and WPA2 clients. This setup also ensures older devices using other encryption modes can connect successfully.

    HHi Kay,

Sorry for my late reponse, but I was occupied for the whole weekend. Related to WPA3 and Transition mode enabled: Where can I find the transition mode? I can't find it anywhere in the settings. I will also check with my current setup and see what the behaviour would be with the devices. This can give me some ideas what will happen. Within the apps I did not saw this option.

    Hi @MarvinSV

No problem at all, and thank you for following up!

When you enable WPA3, Transition Mode is automatically enabled by default. This ensures compatibility with both WPA3 and WPA2 clients. In this mode, WPA2 clients can connect using AES encryption, while older devices may connect using other supported encryption standards.

If the issue persists after verifying your setup, could you please connect your SCR 50AXE to Nebula Control Center and share the MAC addresses of the affected devices via private msg.? This will help us investigate further and provide more accurate assistance.
