WAP Thermal Readings

I'm not sure if the ZyXEL Waps have a thermal sensor to track their current temperature over time.

If they don't you should consider adding one in the next generation.

If they do, it'd be nice to be able to see that data exposed and chartable on the devices screen. "Site-wide>Devices>Access points>[device mac]"

The immediate use case for us is that we have several locations where the ideal WAP placement will be in a location where ventilation is questionalble and we'd like to be able to track if the devices are overheating in the locations they are at.

Of course we can put a network enabled thermometer into the same space but that means either running a dedicated wire for it or having it rely on the Wireless to report back in and it's the WAP's environment that we want to report on. If the WAP is overheating it may not be able to provide WIFI properly for the thermometer to report back.

I'd be better of this was tracked on the device and exposed through nebula in some way to help you predict thermal issues prior to the device failing.

An alternate use case where this could become valuable to ZyXEL as a selling point is if you had a reasonably accurage thermal sensor in the device, it could be used as a data collector for other systems which might desire to consume that data to pinpoint troubles. Two examples I can think of would be for building maintenace to identify areas with faulty HVAC systems or as a supliment to fire alarms in buildings of any size. Sudden spikes in temp tend to indicate troubles for most locations outside the kitchen or boiler room.

This is not a critical item at all. Just a nice to have feature that may not cost much for ZyXEL to implement if there is already thermal tracking on the devices. Or it won't cost much to implement on new devices if there were not.

Thanks!
