ZyXEL NSA325v2 how to install new Samba (Entware-ng)

My configuration:

NSA325v2
V4.81(AALS.0)

I tried to follow Mijzelf’s instructions on

but I cannot get Samba 3.6 running.

I’ve installed MetaRepository.

Then I tried to install Entware from MR.

It is using Entware-ng_20260908_arm_008.zpkg and I am wondering whether this is the correct package for me as the management page http://nas1/pkg/Entware-ng/pkgcgi.cgi?chapter=Packages comes up with Entware armv7sf-k3.2 while I assume that armv5 should be correct.

I also can’t run opkg:

./opkg update

There should be a logfile of the installing of Entware-ng in /opt/var/log/. It should be the oldest file there. Can you post that?

there is no log directory in /opt/var :-(

Really? Then something went horribly wrong. It's the first directory which is created when installing Entware-ng. After that the output of the install script is redirected to /opt/var/log/Entware-ng.log.

I dusted off my old NSA325 and tried to install Entware-ng_20260908_arm_008, which simply worked.

My advice is to remove the Entware-ng package in the package manager, reboot the NAS, and try to reinstall it.

It fails to install the files, because they already exist. The installer already warned:

[19:05:42] Warning: If something goes wrong please clean /opt folder and try again.

Apparently the un-installation of the Entware-ng zypkg is not enough to remove the /opt directory.

So login as root on ssh, and execute

cd /opt

rm -rf *

If the first command yield an error, do not execute the second one. It deletes all content in the current directory, which has to be /opt. (Or /usr/local/zy-pkgs/opt, which is the same directory).

Then dis- and enable the Entware-ng package. The lack of /opt/etc/init.d/rc.unslung will trigger the installer to re-install.
