FWA70 repeatedly dropping NR5G-NSA / n78 and not reattaching – anyone else seeing this?

Hi all,

I’m a UK installer and currently have two Zyxel FWA70 units at separate customer sites showing very similar behaviour.

The pattern is:

  • FWA70 initially connects correctly on NR5G-NSA / n78
  • After a period of operation, 5G drops and the unit falls back to LTE/LTE-A
  • The LTE connection itself remains usable and, in at least one case, has strong RF conditions
  • The problem is that the NR secondary carrier does not reliably reattach
  • Daily scheduled reboots and manual reboots have not consistently restored 5G
  • Zyxel support are currently investigating and have requested modem-level ELT logging

One of the sites was on Auto band selection, but the unit still failed to return to 5G. I have also seen similar behaviour during an FWA710 survey, where Auto did not readily re-establish 5G, but manually selecting LTE B3 + NR n78 allowed the 5G connection to return.

That makes me wonder whether there may be an issue around Auto band selection / NSA reattachment behaviour, rather than simply weak signal.

I’m interested to know whether any other FWA70 owners or installers have seen:

  • n78 dropping after initially working
  • FWA70 remaining on LTE-A indefinitely
  • 5G only returning after manual band selection
  • better stability using manual LTE/NR bands rather than Auto

I’m already working with Zyxel on this, but as I have further installations waiting, I’d really like to know whether this is isolated to my two units or whether others are seeing the same pattern.
