Old NAS326 upgrade

Hi,. Newbie here considering my 1st NAS (prob 8Tb) to share archive of family documents & photos.
I've been offered a nas326, it's at least 5 yrs old. I looked at specs for current 326 version which have much more capability than originals, eg cloud backup options.
I realise performance is limited by chip/ram but will software upgrade bring old models to match new spec.

I think  the software had not been updated for a long time.
Maybe you can try to change the kernel to others and installed different app on your own.
