Zyxel's "Green Ethernet" refers to a set of energy-efficient features and technologies implemented in their networking switches. The goal of Green Ethernet is to reduce power consumption and promote environmentally friendly operation. Some of the common features associated with Green Ethernet in Zyxel switches may include:
- Energy-Efficient Ethernet (EEE): Zyxel switches with Green Ethernet support often feature Energy-Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) technology. EEE allows switches to dynamically adjust power consumption based on network traffic, putting ports into low-power or sleep mode during periods of inactivity.
Note that a hardware reboot (unplug power cord) is necessary to take effect.
- Smart Fan Control: Some Zyxel switches employ smart fan control algorithms that adjust fan speed based on temperature and network load. This helps reduce fan noise and power consumption when the switch is not running at full capacity. (e.g. XGS1930)
- LED Control: Zyxel switches may offer LED control options, allowing users to turn off or dim the status LEDs on ports that are not in use. This reduces unnecessary power consumption and minimizes light pollution in office environments.
This may only support on certain switch models.
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) Management: Zyxel PoE switches often include features for scheduling and managing PoE power to connected devices, ensuring that power is provided only when needed, which can contribute to energy savings.
