Navigating the initial setup of a Zyxel switch can be straightforward, especially when using the http://setup.zyxel domain name. This method is ideal for users starting their network deployment and requires the switch to first obtain an IP address and the user does not need to know the switch's IP address.

  1. Ensure the switch is configured to obtain an IP address, subnet mask, gateway address, and DNS address dynamically via DHCP. When the switch boots up, it should automatically request an IP address from a DHCP server on the network.
  2. Connect your PC or laptop to any available switch port. Your computer should also be set to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).
  3. Once your PC or laptop has an IP address in the same subnet as the switch, open a web browser.
  4. Type http://setup.zyxel into the browser's address bar. This should take you to the switch's login page.

*Please note that if you would like to set up multiple switches by using, only the first Zyxel switch will process the received DNS packet and reply switch's IP address to the PC/laptop.

If you encounter any issues, such as the page not loading, verify that both your switch and PC/laptop are correctly configured for DHCP and are on the same network. Also, make sure that no other device is using the IP address that the switch is configured to use. If issues persist, it might be necessary to directly connect your PC/laptop to the switch and use a network scanner such as Zyxel ZON Utility to find the switch's IP address or use a direct IP connection if you know the switch's IP address.
