Hi,

I still have my NAS540 for data storage but have none of the apps activated.

As far as i know i can only use it on my local network (with a Macbook) and via (local ip) browser login.

No Media Server, No Webdav, myZyxelCloud or Dropbox or whatever..

Is it safe to use it like this? No should be able to connect to it (port 80 is closed aswell)…

regards,

Mark

You should be mostly safe. When your router supports it you could block all access of the NAS to the internet. There has been a vulnerability in the ZyXEL firmware which only needed you to open a malicious webpage in a browser in the same network as the NAS, to inject a script which could download a more heavy payload. That vulnerability is closed, years ago, but if your NAS doesn't need internet access, it won't hurt to block that anyway.

    Thanks Mijzelf for the reply,

If i did everything correct it's now router controller (mac rule based) blocked from the internet.

Network controle, ping requests gets timed out. ("Failed to receive response from a.root-servers.net, please try another host or check the network status.") while still available from within the network.

    regards,
