DDNS problem on USG Flex

Why is it, that the USG Flex Series doesn't use the puplic IP for DDNS?

When I look at NCC > Site-wide > Monitor > Devices > Firewall, I can clearly see that the USG Flex knows the public IP.

My ISP's Modem doesn't allow a "real" Modem-mode. They call it "IP Passtrough". So I have to set a static connection on WAN1 to access the Internet. The IPs are given and can't be changed. 172.31.255.6 for the client and 172.31.255.5 for the Modem.

So here's the question: why is the USG Flex picking the static IP on WAN1 and not the public IP when I enable DDNS-Service? Is there a way to fix this behaviour?

Thanks

    This looks to be Nebula?

In stand-alone you have more options and one of my ideas was added to fix a problem if you did User custom with update with Public IP by http://ip1.dynupdate.no-ip.com/

some DDNS type like No-IP should have Auto so that DDNS updates by its end with the Public IP your on but on my VPN300 it only haves Interface which is no good other DDNS like DynDNS do have Auto

    hello @PeterUK

    Thank you.

Yes I am using Nebula. The Custom setting doesn't work on Nebula.

The only thing I get there is:

You know what baffles me the most: this nebula-xxxxxxxxxxx.d2ns-nbl.com DDNS thingie, gets updated just fine. But USG Flex refuses to update mydomain.net with the correct IP-Address.

    Hi @Xydocq ,

To better assist you, please provide:

    • Your DDNS server/domain
    • The configuration steps you took before the error appeared
    • Your Nebula organization and site names

Also, please enable Zyxel support to help troubleshoot this issue.

    hello @Zyxel_Judy

I use No-IP.com for DDNS. It uses a custom URL, I registered for my business.

I didn't take any configuration steps, the error appeared on day one when I started using the USG Flex. The configuration looks like this:

With this settings USG Flex picks the IP of WAN1 but not the public IP.

The setup looks like this: Internet > ISP Router (translates public IP to 172.31.255.6 [IP Passtrough]) > USG Flex (WAN configuration Static)

Sure I could use Custom on the IP address DDNS setting and then enter my public IP. But what good does it do, when I have to check by myself, if my public IP changed or not and then enter the update by hand?

USG Flex should know the public IP. Why would it show on NCC if that isn't the case? Looking localy at the Interface Status, it appears USG Flex has no clue what the public IP is.

The DDNS nebula uses for VPN-connections gets updated fine.

So why is it working there but not for a custom DDNS?

Maybe you should add an option to add a different "Interface", other then wan1. Because the public IP has to be stored somewhere on the device and it would be nice to be able to select this.
