I have a NAS 542 that is a few years old. When I turn it on, the device starts spinning the disks, starts up, and the login screen appears. At this point, you can enter your username and password, and the device starts logging in, but after a while you hear a BIP and the device turns off.

What is causing this and how can I fix this problem

Did you have timed shutdown activated? In the past that function has proven to be able to go haywire. In that case a factory reset could solve the problem.

When the box has beeped to indicate the booting is done, push the reset button on the back, and keep it pressed until the box has beeped 3 times.

Yes, I did. It was scheduled to go down every day at 01:00 and start up at 09:00.

Will try to reset and will let know here the results.

Now device is booting up and stays on and seems that original problem was solved (thank you very much!) but I cannot access NAS via network (I cannot connect to login page). Tried to use http://NAS542/ or https://NAS542/ or find it in local network but it does no show there. Also green LED is not light and amber LED is blinking on Ethernet port. Seems now it is some network problem.

Have you tried the other ethernet port?
