Is anyone using a third-party captive portal system alongside Nebula?

We want to capture name, email address and marketing consent for anyone connecting to our guest wifi and I don't believe the built-in captive portal has this capability.

    Hello,

Based on the search results, it appears that the built-in captive portal in Nebula by Zyxel might have limitations regarding capturing specific user data like name, email address, and marketing consent in the way you need. MYBKExperience.Com Survey

However, Nebula does support the use of external captive portal systems. This would allow you to use a third-party solution that has the features you require for data capture and consent, while still managing your network through the Nebula platform.

Here's what the search results indicate:

External Captive Portal Support: Nebula allows you to configure an external captive portal URL. This means when a guest connects to your Wi-Fi, they can be redirected to a captive portal hosted by a third-party service.

Customization: Some sources mention the ability to customize the captive portal page, which might involve editing HTML files if you host your own, or using the tools provided by a third-party captive portal service.
Integration with Third-Party Services: There are third-party captive portal providers that specifically mention integration with Zyxel Nebula, offering features like collecting email addresses and syncing with marketing platforms.
In summary, while the built-in Nebula captive portal might not directly offer the advanced data capture you need, you can definitely use a third-party captive portal system in conjunction with Nebula by configuring an external captive portal.

To achieve your goal, you would need to:

Choose a third-party captive portal provider that offers the features you need (name, email capture, marketing consent).
Configure your Nebula guest Wi-Fi SSID to use an external captive portal, pointing it to the URL provided by your chosen third-party service.
It might be helpful to research third-party captive portal solutions that explicitly mention compatibility or integration with Zyxel Nebula for a smoother setup.

    Best Regards

    Hi @nickpatchett,

Regarding the captive portal capability you required, Zyxel Nebula does support this functionality, such as name and email address. The following tutorial shows you how to configure captive portal settings for an SSID profile.

    • Go to Site-wide > Configure > Access points > SSID settings
    • Click on Advanced mode switch, Add SSID network, and Edit to edit your SSID profile image.png
    • Go to Site-wide > Configure > Access points > SSID advanced settings to assign an SSID Name and enable the SSID. Next, select the Sign-on with: Nebula cloud authentication to use the NCC user database to authenticate users.
      • If you select My RADIUS server, enter the RADIUS server’s Host, Port, and Secret. Enter the Network Access Server (NAS) identifier on the Nebula Device to identify the Nebula Device to the RADIUS server, if required. This might be necessary if there are multiple Nebula Devices behind NAT using the same public WAN IP address for the RADIUS server. Note: Make sure to add the Nebula Device (AP) to the trusted device list in the RADIUS server. image.png
    • Scroll down the page to choose your Self-registration method. Then click Back and Save. image.png
    • Create a Custom Captive Portal Page by going to Site-wide > Configure > Access points > Captive portal customization.
    • On the original page, there is only a default theme to choose from. To design your own theme, click on the copy icon, and then the ‘Copy of Modern’ will appear on the right. Then click the edit icon to customize your captive portal page. Alternatively, use an external captive portal URL if necessary. image.png
    • Click on the icon on the right of ‘Copy of Modern’ to modify your theme name. You might also need to edit the HTML and CSS code to capture users’ names and email addresses. Please refer to the information in this FAQ link for steps on this part. image.png
    • To check users’ names and email addresses, go to Site-wide > Configure > Cloud authentication to confirm that the information displays correctly.

Regarding the marketing consent, could you please provide more details on how you would like to collect this information from users? This requirement may need additional effort in editing the HTML and CSS sections.
